About Swedish Massage
Swedish Massage is performed to energize the body and improve overall health and well-being. This type of massage is one of the more common types of massage treatment and involves actions called effleurage, petrissage, kneading, hacking and cupping. It helps relieve tired and aching muscles and releases muscle tension.
Massage can help to speed recovery from illness or injury, improve circulation and boost the immune system by helping the body to detoxify. Swedish Massage is practiced using skin on skin techniques using a ‘base’ or ‘carrier oil’. Typically this will be Almond oil, Grapeseed oil or Coconut oil. Oils are used to protect the skin from friction. The oil in turn also softens, hydrates and nourishes the skin.
For your massage, oils are used on my hands, fingers, knuckles, thumbs, palms, forearms and elbows and massaged into your skin using approved Swedish massage techniques as described above. I DO NOT use my knees, feet or full body weight as may be found during other types of massage or alternative therapy treatments.
Swedish massage should be predominantly relaxing while also invigorating and stimulating for the mind and body all, while nurturing the soul. You should feel a positive effect on your well being afterwards.
Muscles should remain relaxed during your massage to assist in the easing out of any tension. Tense, unrelaxed muscles are harder work for the therapist and have less benefit for the client. Swedish Massage should not be painful.
